About Me

Hello, my name is Deandra. I'm a 30 year old native English speaker currently residing in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A.

I first began working with ESL students while studying at Arizona State University. At the time I was a student of Japanese and began participating in on campus language exchanges with many of the foreign exchange students. It was then that I realized how much I loved helping others learn English.

During my college years I traveled around the world as much as possible. I enjoyed time in the quiet and clean city of Stockholm, was amazed at the lifestyle of people in Berlin, watched the Tour de France from the lawn of a petite French church and even enjoyed the Cinco de Mayo festivities of my next door neighbor Mexico.

After graduation I moved to Japan and began teaching English full-time to a variety of students from toddlers to senior citizens. While there I learned many techniques, methods and useful skills. But the most important concept I learned was ALWAYS BE STRICT.

For me, being strict means "be precise and dedicated," not angry, cruel or mean. I am a very strict teacher. I will correct ALL of your mistakes, both spoken and written. I do this in order to make sure you do your best and push yourself to do even better. I always strive to make sure a student builds confidence and improves in their problem areas.

Teaching is my passion, but I also love to watch movies, travel, sew my own clothes and play video games.

Here's a short list of some of my favorite things.

Favorite movie: The Goonies

Favorite TV Shows: "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Conan O' Brian Show."

Favorite Songs: "PYT" by Michael Jackson, "Sakura I Love You," by Kana Nishino and "All I Do is Think About You," by Tammi Terrell.

Favorite color: Purple (because it's strong, yet still feminine)

Favorite food: Colby Jack Cheese (even though it's so bad for me) and Mexican Food

Favorite City: Tokyo

I've made many great friends around the world and hope to make many more through helping people learn English online.
